Data artists are business analytics experts, who can visualize results from analytical processes in a way, that none experts can understand the knowledge extracted from the results. They use images, charts or other data visualization techniques to help others to understand the facts derived from the data. In contrast to the data scientists, a data artist builds a bridge between the data analyst and the data resp. knowledge user.
As is well-known an image can be more meaningful than a big pile of numbers and therefor the data artist additionally has the role as an artist, who is responsible for chosing the best fitting visualization to transform the data knowledge into a users benefit.
