The Minister of the Interior of Baden-Württemberg, Thomas Strobl, recognises innovative project to detect hacked websites and protect against fake shops.

The company mindUp Web + Intelligence GmbH from Constance was honoured with the Security Award at the 6th Baden-Württemberg Cybersecurity Forum in Stuttgart. Dr Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, Minister of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism of the State of Baden-Württemberg, and Thomas Strobl, Minister of the Interior, Digitisation and Local Authorities of the State of Baden-Württemberg, presented the award.

With the INSPECTION project, mindUp has developed a highly innovative process based on artificial intelligence to find illegally manipulated websites (hackings) and proactively inform the affected companies. This enables them to close any security gaps promptly and prevent the resulting abuse.

mindUp impressed the jury with its ‘INSPECTION’ project, as the hackings often remain hidden from the affected companies for months or even years. The reason for this is that the original websites were intact, but abusive content was infiltrated on a large scale. In addition to the aspect of strengthening the operational security of companies, consumers are also provided with a secure Internet. The hacking of the websites is aimed at directing consumers to abusive offers such as fake shops or ransomware downloads with the manipulated websites.

A particular advantage: the INSPECTION project creates cross-industry awareness of IT security. This is achieved, among other things, by presenting real hacker attacks at events in order to illustrate the security problem in an impressive way. Two explanatory videos were also produced as part of the project, which show both concrete steps for rectifying security incidents and preventative measures.

‘We are very proud of this award, which recognises the hard work of our team and all our partners,’ says Managing Director Joachim Feist. ‘We hope that this award will help us to find further partners and funding to expand and maintain the project.’

The award-winning INSPECTION project (www.web-inspection.de) started as a BMBF research project with the involvement of the SECUSO research group at KIT in Karlsruhe and the forensics experts at BDO AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft. It is now being continued by mindUp Web + Intelligence GmbH.

With this award, mindUp Web + Intelligence GmbH emphasises its innovative strength in the field of AI and IT security.
